Posted at: 5/11/2026, 2:56:34 PM - R to @NatlParkService: Did you know badgers are expert diggers? Their strong front claws can tunnel through hard soil in minutes, and some species can even disappear underground almost instantly. See you on Tuesday. #TheMoreYouknow
Posted at: 5/11/2026, 2:56:34 PM - RT by @NatlParkService: Today at the World War II Memorial, we hosted a commemorative event honoring all those who contributed to Allied victory in the Atlantic Theatre, on this anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. Thanks to all of the visitors, volunteers, partners, servicemembers, foreign officials, and especially the World War II veterans who joined us. We will always be grateful for the Greatest Generation.

Posted at: 5/7/2026, 7:45:28 PM - Don’t go chasing waterfalls...cautiously approach and be careful of slippery conditions. In fact, you may just want to stick to the rivers and lakes that you’re used to.
Posted at: 5/7/2026, 3:38:07 PM - R to @NatlParkService: Waterfalls are some of the most popular spots in parks for sightseeing and snapping photos. Their beauty is undeniable, but they can also be surprisingly risky for the unprepared. Slippery rocks, steep slopes, and hidden currents can catch visitors off guard.
What’s the rush? (Besides the water, of course.) If you’re exploring a waterfall, be aware of the hazards. Keep a safe distance from edges, avoid slick rocks, and wear sturdy shoes. Remember: flippy floppies can quickly lead to slippy sloppies!
Posted at: 5/7/2026, 3:38:07 PM - Owls have large eyes and feathery ridges that when combined often make them look as if they’re questioning all your life choices.
Posted at: 4/28/2026, 5:44:14 PM - R to @NatlParkService: Owl eyeballs are actually elongated tubes, anchored in place by a bony structure in the skull called the sclerotic ring. Because of this, owls can’t move or roll their eyes within their sockets. So, when an owl stares at you, it’s not actually judging you...it just can’t look away.
Finally, did you know owls have three eyelids? One is for blinking, one for sleeping, and one for keeping their eye "tubes" clean. We could have added a joke, but the owl just slowly blinked at us.
